Fitness Tip of The Day: Resting Time Between Sets

Writer's picture: Dragon IzumiDragon Izumi

Keeping track of the resting time between sets and each exercises is just as important if not even more important than the exercise itself. If you are going heavy you should take about a minute or a little more rest between sets but for higher intensity with moderate and light weight keep the rest between sets short (about 30-45 seconds). For successful growth, keeping your heart rate in the target zone and keeping the blood flow in the working muscle is the key. The longer you rest (more than needed), the heart rate resets and the blood drives away from the muscle losing the pump. So if you let your guard down with texting and chatting, you're going to lose track of resting time and waste your workout. If you see someone sitting on the abductor machine or a bench constantly texting and maybe doing a few reps every few minutes, just know they'll never achieve any results. Put away the phones, put your head phones on and focus on your workout. Ladies, you may experience some men interrupting your workout with endless talking, you don't have to be nice to them. Tell them off and focus on your set. If your goal is change, set your priorities and treat it like so.
